Skipping CD’s, Paranoia and Probation Highlight The Episode This Week

Melissa talks to AbbyTensions were building last night on Dance Moms as Kelly and Christi continue to work on Melissa to join their side in a crusade against Abby Lee. The big drama revolved around cdskip-gate last week where the moms convinced Melissa that Abby set that up purposely as a cheap way to make Maddy win.  For those who didn’t understand the situation, judges tend to favorably view a dancer who can continue to perform when things don’t go smooth.  If done purposely, that’s about as low as it gets and is looked down very harshly.

Obviously Melissa wants to protect her daughters reputation, so she confronted Abby about the rumors, but naturally they were denied.  We’ll never know the truth because as bad as it looks for Maddie, it looks 100x worse for Abby Lee to cheat for her students.  She’ll never admit it even if it was on purpose, her studio would lose all credibility right away.  Do I think it was done purposely?  The reality show fanatic in me originally felt it was, but logic set in and I don’t think so.  Maddie is a fantastic dancer and doesn’t need any help getting back on top, especially at the risk of Abby’s precious reputation.

With that aside, it was time to do Abby’s apparently new favorite thing, the pyramid (I say new because she’s on record saying the pyramid is a Dance Moms thing).  Just like last week when Maddie skipped a chance to dance, Brooke and Paige were both at the very bottom.  The difference was Maddie didn’t have a big ‘PROBATION’ written on her picture.  Kind of unfair to Brooke and Paige, but that’s Abby being Abby.. there is more than enough evidence of some type of favoritism, and it was even on display again last night.

During the group number, Paige came out with the only unique dress and was instantly forced to give it up to Chloe.  This meant Chloe ended up wearing a dress too tight, and Paige’s was too large.  The funny part is, the 11 year old dancers were the ones acting mature about it all.. Chloe wanted Paige to be the unique one, and Paige also handled it well by simply going along with it all.  Was it favoritism, or do you believe Abby’s excuse that Chloe should have had a unique dress because of her role in the dance?

As far as the rest of the dancers, Maddie and Chloe had a duo and looked phenomenal, but still only ended up in 2nd place in their category.

Nia, Maddie and Mackenzie also had solo’s, and only one of them won first place in their category.  Can you guess which one?   I’ll give you a hint, it’s not Maddie, and it’s also not Nia. That’s right, Mackenzie finally remembered  her entire solo and rocked it on stage.  She won 1st in the petite category, while Nia won 9th and Maddie 4th in their categories.

The group number ended up looking very cute and well done, but in the end, it wasn’t good enough because they finished 2nd.  That wasn’t good enough for Abby who went off on the group after that.  Again, feeling embarrassed and ashamed and taking it out on the kids.  This is the part I don’t understand.  She has a bunch of pre-teen dancers, some (Maddie) has to learn *3* dances in a matter of days, yet gets worked up they only finished 2nd?  It just blows my mind that she gets upset at 2nd place with that short of prep time.  Maybe it’s normal in the competitive dance world, but it just seems like a lot to place on kids.

What are your thoughts on the episode last night?

While I love Dance Moms, it is definitely not an accurate portrayal of the competition dance world. I danced competitively for about 5 years. We started learning routines in August and started competing in April. We had months to learn a routine and perfect it. Also, my teachers never made it all about winning. It was about having fun and loving to dance. If we won, it was great, if we didn’t that was fine too. In my opinion, the best thing about competing was spending the day with my dance family.
Again, with all that being said, I absolutely love Dance Moms and watch it every week. But it doesn’t accurately portray the dance world, just a very small portion of it. But hey, it is reality TV right?

Lifetime camera guy moved camera onto competition music guy, who had the cd drawer open and finger on cd. So yes, it was planned. But by who? We will never know. But based on how Melissa acts, and the way Abbe feels about her “star”, I would bet Abbe had Maddie practice it that way. The reason the ALDC is suddenly attending “new” competitions is because in the past, the ones they attended have banned the Lifetime camera crew. ALDC girls can compete but no camera crews allowed. They are running out of places to compete on camera. The reason given for banning the Lifetime camera crew was that the show cuts away the actual dancers who won, put in less talented ones, and fakes the results. I would like to hear Abbe Miller and Lifetime address this issue, and tell us the truth. The show is so bizarre now that nothing we see can be believed.

Lifetime has addressed this issue. Starquest and Thunderstruck are the only competitions shown that have banned them. The reasoning you posted came right from Starquest’s press release. Thunderstruck had completely different issues with Lifetime, the main one being that they lied about the premise of the show and were entered under the studio name Collins Avenue, which is the production company for the show, instead of Abby Lee Dance Company. They made it clear in their statement that Abby Lee Miller can come back any time but Jeff Collins is not welcome back.

Yes they are limited to certain competitions because some do not allow any outside cameras whatsoever. This does not mean they are “banned”. Filming locations is a common problem all reality tv shows face.

People who were actually at the competition said that the CD didn’t actually skip so you are wrong about that too. Yes it was staged for the show, obviously, but really don’t talk unless you know what you’re talking about. Nobody “scratched it”.

Also, almost all of the competitions post results on their websites. So if you’re really going to get that bent out of shape about the fake results, look them up.

No kidding. I do look them up. That is why I find it so odd that Lifetime would fake so much that is so easily verified. I never said the cd was scratched. It was “held still”. Lifetime’s camera guy, for brief second, showed the man holding it still. Staged. Why? We will never know. But I am sure that Abbe Miller knew about it, and she passed that info onto Melissa, telling Maddie “keep going if your music skips”. The show is now a trainwreck that is harming those kids.

I don’t know what you’re talking about with “holding it still” but that is incorrect. All over tumblr and some other blog sites there are people who were actually at the competition saying that the music did not skip. I repeat, the music did not skip at all in real life at the competition. They were all upset about it when they saw the episode because it was 100% made up.
My dance coach used to tell us all the time that if the music skips keep going. It’s common sense. Abby probably tells them that every day so they decided to make a storyline out of it. Why? Drama, ratings, viewership, etc. We do know. Half the stuff is made up anyway. But if it bothers you that much, dont watch..

I am a 16 year old dancer and attended this competition. I watched Maddie’s performance and her music was definitely jumbled/skipped/messed up. Why? I have no clue.

I know that if this Abby Lee Miller were to treat my children like this she would end up on her fat butt. What I want to know is how could these Mom’s let it happen I believe that the so called Mom’s make a lot of money for this to happen. Would like to see her do some of the dances she has these kids do but then they do not have a fork lift big enough to get her off the floor.

The music definately skipped during the competition. Is people were sitting too far back I guess they may not have noticed, but it very noticeably skipped. Everyone sitting around me gasped and for sure noticed.

These women should be ashamed of themselves and so should anyone who supports them. They are everything a person should not be. Selfish, envious, bitchy… Can a person have any more issues? These women should act like role models. Do they realize how many little girls watch this show. What kind of message are they sending to these kids? These mothers do it all like it’s acceptable. Someone needs to smack em all across the face in hopes they’ll wake up. If women keep acting like this, society WILL fall apart. We must help each other, not hurt each other for our selfish gains. What a joke this show is. Keep portraying this image of selfishness to these little girls to get ratings. How pathetic can lifetime get???

I was hoping there was going to be a recap at least this week. Since there was no Teen Mom epi to recap.

The moms notice that every time Payton comes in the dances, she gets a featured role. Holly notices that it was the first time Payton and Brooke were dancing together.
