Maddie Ziegler

Maddie Ziegler (born September 30, 2002) is a dancer featured on the Lifetime show called Dance Moms. She is the daughter of Kurt and Melissa Ziegler, both appear on the show as well.  Kurt was on for a brief time when he wanted to pull Maddie and her sister Mackenzie from the Abby Lee Dance Studio, but hasn’t appeared since.  Melissa Ziegler takes Maddie to her classes, deals with Abby Lee as well as the other mothers.   She is very protective and caring of her daughter, and goes out of her way to make sure Maddie will have a bright future in dance including having a room called “the store” in her house that holds all their dance clothes, jewelry and more.

As one of the top dancers in her class, Maddie Ziegler has won many awards, and regularly places at the top of “The Pyramid”.  In addition to being a talented dancer, she is also one of the most supportive friends on the show, as iss always first in line to give someone a hug or console them after a poor performance.  Her dream is to become a professional dancer or choreographer when she is older, and it appears she’s well on her way to reaching that goal.

Maddie has already had job offers, including 8 callbacks for the show Billie Elliot, but taking the role would have made her a professional dancer and removed eligibility for competitions.  This is also the same reason none of the mothers nor dancers get paid for their time on the show. I assume things like dance class or travel are paid for in exchange, but that is not confirmed.

Season 1

Season 1 was based around learning the girls, understanding Abby Lee, and getting to know the mothers.  While the dancers had their role, the season was mostly involving the drama with the mothers and how competitive they are.  Towards the end of the season, Maddie’s father stepped into the picture and threatened to remove the girls from the studio, but it turned out the threat was empty and it never happened.

The girls went to Los Angelas and were able to audition to be in a music video for Lux. The competition came down to Maddie and Chloe, but the lead spot eventually went to Chloe as she resembled a younger version of Lux.

Season 2

Season 2 was the coming of age for Chloe, which meant Maddie dealt with a little more competition regarding the much debated pyramid.  While the first part of the season mostly revolved around the coming and going of dancers looking to fill a vacancy, the end of the season Maddie and Chloe get pushed into the spotlight once again with a competition to see who will be awarded a scholarship to the Joffrey ballet school.  While the editing showed Chloe to win out again, in reality both girls were offered scholarships.
